R.I.P. Cibo West End

THIS ICED COFFEE BLOG BEGAN WHEN I LIVED IN THE BURBS AND HAD A TERRIBLE ICED COFFE AT A ZARRAFFA'S AND DREAMT OF LIVING IN WEST END SO THAT I COULD BE CLOSER TO THE BEST ICED COFFEE IN TOWN AT CIBO.

MY MY, HAVEN'T THINGS CHANGED.  I REALISED MY DREAM AND DID MOVE TO WEST END AND FOR ABOUT 6MTHS ENJOYED THE FRIENDLY EFFICIENT SERVICE AT CIBO WEST END. I INDULGED REGULARLY IN THE ICED COFFEE WHICH WAS STRONG, OVERLY GENEROUS IN ITS HELPING OF ESPRESSO GELATO AND CONSISTENTLY GOOD.

AND THEN THE ROT SET IN.

NEW STAFF LET THE BRAND DOWN.  THEY WERE ARROGANTLY IGNORANT.  THE FINAL STRAW WAS WHEN ONE YOUNG PUNK TOOK OUR COFFEE ORDER WHILE HE CONTINUED TO CHAT ON THE PHONE.  THE ICED COFFEES BECAME MEAN SPIRITED LIKE THE STAFF.  THEY OFTEN RAN OUT OF THE GELATO AND THE COFFEE WAS LACK LUSTRE LIKE THE ESTABLISHMENT.

THIS IS SUCH A PERTINENT LESSON TO ALL BUSINESSES.  NEVER REST ON YOUR LAURELS, NEVER ASSUME YOU'LL BE AHEAD OF YOUR GAME, NEVER EMPLOY STAFF THAT AREN'T 100% PASSIONATE ABOUT THE PRODUCT, NEVER ASSUME THAT YOUR CUSTOMER ISN'T WATCHING VERY CLOSELY, NEVER STOP IMPROVING AND WORKING HARD.

CIBO IS NOW CLOSED/FOLDED/GONESKI.  A VERY SAD ENDING TO WHAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL RELATIONSHIP.

PS - (WE'VE TRIED THE NEW FARM OUTLET SINCE THEN BUT WERE MET AGAIN BY ROBOTIC STAFF AND SUBSTANDARD PRODUCT - HMMM SMELLS LIKE TROUBLE)

  1. Well said, only too true!
Try the Chermside store. I have now visited them 4 times and had equally amazing coffees each time. I made my husband traipse over there just so he could try the coffee! H

  2. Why do you post everything in CAPS?

  3. I'm not sure why I post in Caps? I just like the look of it. I don't believe it's bad manners (shouting) as some say - its a font thing I guess. Does it irritate you?

  4. oh dear, what a shame, but good on you for letting everyone know, I totally agree in everything you said about service etc.. even if it was typed in capital letters (tongue in cheek!) why dont you try a coffee shop in Manly sometime? there might be something here. Good Luck

  5. I'm not sure - I had pretty good service with them when I went! In terms of service, the only negative I've had was that they ran out of those coupon things where if you get 9 drinks, you get the 10th free ;)

  7. I always walked past the West End Cibo as nothing special.
I've been a regular at the New Farm Cibo since it opened. Robotic staff?? They'e ALL great people over there. I drive past Teneriffe cafes to get there even if it is right beside Coles and not trendy like the Deli.
The reason? To be served by the "robotic staff".

PS yes, Caps is considered bad manners. Rude people shout in cafes and shops so why not here too?

  8. Peter, thanks for you comments - much appreciated. I can see your passion for CIBO. I will always have a soft spot for this brand.
I recently visited Adelaide to build my precinkt.com website and there was Cibo on every 2nd corner! I think I was just devastated by a good brand not being cared for by employees. Maybe my day at New Farm Cibo was a bad day? Upon your recommendation I'd be more than willing to try this outlet again. Thank you for reminding me of the delicious coffee experience that is Cibo.
